Dear Friends,
Thanks to everyone who made it out to yesterday’s AAARG. From my perspective it was another amazing event. A wonderful time of sharing, learning, laughing and having fun together, Thanks to each person for your contribution to the evening. Many people commented, once again, on the delicious vegan potluck, there seemed to be a wide variety of foods to accommodate the various dietary allergies and the pickiest eaters. Kate did a fantastic job being our guest speaker. You can sign up for USC's latest information and upcoming events at http://usc-canada.org/resources/enewsletter/
For the first two seasons of AAARG all I knew was that I had one more AAARG in me! We are now well into the swing of our third year and what a thrilling year it’s lining up to be. There are some very varied and exciting ideas for the next 6 events. Please watch our website www.aaarg.ca. for updated dates. Here are the dates as they stand now: November 22nd, January 3rd, February 21st, , April 4th , May 16th and June 27th. . These dates aren’t cast in stone, unless a guest speaker is already confirmed, so if you’re aware of a clash with another event please, please speak out as soon as possible.
I’m excited to tell you we have Andy Parent confirmed to speak at our next AAARG on November 22nd Please mark this date on your calendar. Andy Parent from "Big Sky Ranch" founded this animal sanctuary in 2002 and will be telling us his story, his work and about the animals at the sanctuary.
Thank you Pat for bringing to our attention a new book Animal Matters by Marc Bekoff. If you have the opportunity to read this book please send us your review. It looks like a worthwhile read.
Flo told us about blueplanet lightbulbs being shown on TV of late. They are actually low mercury mini-fluourescents inside a "regular" old style bulb of glass - that means it'll fit into all fixtures with old lampshades.. The ads say that a tree is planted for every bulb purchased - cool. Also, they're regularly 9.99 at Canadian tire for two bulbs but, as of Friday afternoon, they're on sale for $7.99 and, beside the aisle bin in the store in Bells Corners, there's an instant save coupon for $4 (max 5 per customer I believe), so, that's two bulbs for $3.99. Oh yah - and they work in cold temperatures (-23 C to 60 C) so they're good for outdoor applications too. Thanks for the information Flo.
Pat recommends the totally uplifting DVD "Bella". Check out the behind-the-scenes clips and the interviews with the producer, who is also the main actor. The motives and dreams of the production crew are certainly commendable! This movie was the winner of the "peoples' choice" award at the Toronto film festival last year, and it well deserves that honour.
